What does FFP2 mean?

FFP2 is a European safety rating for disposable respirators, defined by standard EN 149:2001 + A1:2009. FFP2 masks filter at least 94% of airborne particles, including dusts, mists, and fine fibres. They're used in construction, manufacturing, woodworking, and any environment where airborne particulate is a concern.

What's the difference between FFP2 and FFP3?

FFP2 masks filter at least 94% of airborne particles. FFP3 masks filter at least 99%. Both are tested to the same European standard, EN 149:2001 + A1:2009. Choose FFP2 for visible dust and standard particulates — construction, woodworking, sanding, DIY. Choose FFP3 for finer or more hazardous particulates such as asbestos, lead dust, or biological aerosols.

Is the D-100C CE certified?

Yes. Every D-100C mask is CE certified under CE 2797 and tested to EN 149:2001 + A1:2009 — the European standard for filtering facepiece respirators. The certification is printed on the mask itself, alongside the FFP2 marking.

How long can I wear one D-100C mask?

A single FFP2 mask is designed for one shift of normal wear — up to 8 hours. Replace the mask sooner if breathing becomes restricted, the mask becomes visibly soiled or wet, or if you've been in a heavily contaminated environment. Don't fold or crush the mask between uses; it's not designed to recover its shape.

Can I reuse an FFP2 mask?

The D-100C is a disposable mask, not a reusable respirator. It's designed for one work session, then disposed. If you need a reusable mask with replaceable filter cartridges, the G-500 and M-500 half-mask respirators are designed for that purpose.

What's the carbon layer for?

The D-100C includes an activated carbon layer between the outer filter layers. Activated carbon absorbs nuisance odours — paint thinners, solvents, smoke, mildew — and reduces the smell while you work. It does not turn the mask into a chemical respirator. For dedicated chemical or vapour protection, use a reusable mask with a certified gas filter like the M-500 A1P2 or M-500 ABEK1-P2.

Does the valve let unfiltered air in?

No. The valve on the D-100C is a one-way exhalation valve — it opens when you breathe out and closes when you breathe in. All inhaled air passes through the filter layers. The valve reduces heat and moisture build-up inside the mask during long use, which is why it's a comfort feature rather than a protection compromise.

How do I get a good seal?

Place the mask over your nose and mouth. Pull the lower strap around the back of your neck and the upper strap across the crown of your head. Pinch the aluminium nose clip with both hands — using one hand is the most common cause of a poor seal. To check, cup your hands over the mask and breathe in sharply: the mask should draw onto your face.
